Arrangers

Helping families celebrate a life is a privilege – and one that doesn’t require any tertiary qualifications. In fact, the most important skill is one that often cannot be taught; the art of listening. An Arranger works with a family prior to the funeral and seeks to understand their wishes in how they would like to farewell a loved one. Your job would be working out how to logistically turn expectations for the day into a reality.

It is possible to be an Arranger and a Conductor.

Arranger Conductor

Our Arranger Conductors assist families in planning a funeral service for their loved one, and then oversee the implementation of those plans on the day of the service. Arranger Conductors serve as a single point of contact for families navigating the difficult process of planning and holding a funeral for their loved one.

From the first call through to the day of the funeral service..  The role requires a strong sense of empathy, coordination and planning skills, attention to detail and a commitment to providing comfort and support to those in need, the role of an Arranger Conductor is a crucial one.

Conductors

A funeral is, understandably one of the toughest days where people will need support the most. That’s where a Conductor steps in. They’re a guiding hand to oversee that a family’s wishes are being correctly carried out and to ensure the smooth-running of proceedings for everybody to have a chance to say goodbye. Most importantly, they’re the one point of contact people can rely on to lend a supportive and caring ear, without judgement and only ever with compassion.

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications do I need to work in the funeral industry?

There are many different roles both within a funeral home and in our support office at InvoCare. That means there are some roles that require particular schooling or licensing and some that don’t. But empathy, compassion and people skills will always be the first thing we look for in anyone applying for a role with us.

What experience do I need to work in funeral care?

Just like qualifications, some roles require experience and others do not. Our employees come from a range of backgrounds including customer service, hospitality, retail, care services and more. In fact, the more life experience you have, the more understanding and empathetic you could be with our families. Be sure to check job descriptions carefully to make sure you meet the minimum requirements before applying.

Will I receive full training?

All employees undergo an extensive induction programme and are fully trained in all aspects of each of their role.  Once a new employee has commenced in their role, existing team members will also guide and support the new employee as they get up to speed with the broad variety of tasks and situations that play in their day to day roles.

What are the different roles involved in funeral care?

It takes many different roles to provide efficient, caring and dignified funeral services. For example, in our funeral locations, you’ll find Conductors/Arrangers who lead funeral planning, Funeral Director Assistants who look after the logistics of a funeral service, and others. There are also many roles that do not work directly with families in corporate positions such as finance, marketing, legal and more.

Which role is equivalent to a Funeral Director?

An Arranger / Conductor or Arranger is the role that organises all aspect of the funeral service for a loved one with their family.  This may also be known as a Funeral Director.  In some locations we split the role of arranging the funeral delivering the funeral plan on the day which is the role of a Conductor.  At InvoCare, a Funeral Directors Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks from bring the deceased into our care to driving the hearse and funeral vehicles on the day of the service.

What are the key skills I need to perform the role of an Arranger Conductor?

Arranger Conductors need to possess a natural desire to want to support families through a difficult time.  This requires empathy, patience, a strong service orientation, emotional intelligence, cultural awareness, good attention to detail and the ability to plan an event to the families or loved ones wishes from beginning to end and leave no stone unturned.

What contact would I have with the those who have passed away?

There are many people involved in celebrating and commemorating a life. Not all of them work directly with those that have passed, including many of our corporate roles within finance, business management, marketing and more. Knowing that you are contributing to a larger, purposeful industry is the reason many people join InvoCare.
